Adie Banan

Adie won her classroom and school level competitions, took a test and wrote an essay about her historical hero, Rosa Parks, to reach the finals among more than 25,000 competitors from 49 states in a nationwide elementary school history bee sponsored by Penguin Young Readers and the “Who Was?” book series.

She picked Parks because “even though she had to go to jail, Rosa Parks still stood up for her rights as a black person.”

The president and publisher of Penguin Workshop said the company was astounded by the dedication and passion for history exhibited by Adie and the other finalists.

Adie explained that it doesn’t get better than winning an inaugural history bee. She won $2,000 for college and secured a book collection for her school.

Roberge School is extremely proud of Adie's accomplishment!
